Categotry Archives: Amos

I’VE BEEN BITTEN BY THE GENEALOGY BUG, AGAIN!!

It has been a while since I have done any research or even thought about my Family History. Not because it wasn’t important to me, but Life just gets in the way sometime and our hobbies always end up taking a back seat. Now that the Ancestors are stirring again, there is no way for me to ignore them. My Nola line has always been the most funniest and sometime easiest line to Research considering that the family stayed in […]

SURNAME SATURDAY: “AMOS”

I recently had the pleasure of communicating with an “Amos” descendant. Thats right a “New Cousin” Her Great Great Grandfather Daniel Amos was Father of my Great Grandfather James Manuel Amos. Let me share what I know about James: James Manuel Amos was born about 1870 in Minden, Louisiana. He had 4 children by my Great Grandmother Amanda Robertson from Cotton Valley, LA. Not sure if they were married or not, I have yet to find a Marriage Record.  There names were James, […]

SURNAME SATURDAY: MY NOLA UPDATE!

I previously did a post with all my Ancestors Surnames that I knew about up until this point. I have some more information that I want to share. Looks like my Robertson Line used two other Surnames: Robinson and Roberson. I knew about the Roberson Surname because on the 1870 Census the Family was listed as Roberson, but by 1880 and beyond it was Robertson. Now on the 1870 Census there was a Charity Roberson that was listed as a […]

CARINVAL of AFRICAN AMERICAN GENEALOGY: GRANDMA HANDS! GRANDMOTHERS and THEIR INFLUENCE on the FAMILY!

I don’t remember my maternal Grandmother Odessa Amos(Big Momma to some but I like calling her NaNa). She passed away when I was 2 years old. My Mom and Dad worked the evening shift and NaNa Odessa babysat for my brother and I a lot, especially since her and my Mom lived across the hall from each other in the Robert Taylor Homes in Chicago, IL. I’m quite sure we spent many evenings in the kitchen talking, sharing recipes, and […]

SURNAMES

I have been Researching my Louisiana Line for over a year now and have never posted the Surnames and the information that I have about each one. So here goes: Robertson: Ben Robertson born in GA about 1844. Married Mandy Bryan(t) around 1865 and had 11 children: Charity?, Henry, Georgia, Jennie?, Minerva, Thomas, Cornelius, Emma, Mary, Babe, Amanda, Martha, and Annie(Charity and Jennie are not for sure known children of Ben and Mandy, but show up on the census in the […]

SENTIMENTAL SUNDAY: ARLENE AMOS GRANDERSON

May 1938-February 04, 2010 Arlene(sitting on the left) is my moms first cousin(her dad was Joesph Amos). This picture was taken in January 1988, when my mom(on Arlene’s advice) packed everything up and decided to move from Chicago, IL to Maryland, and our family has been Blessed ever since. Arlene was an inspriration to us all and encourage us to be and do our best. She was my bother’s Godmother and she will be truly missed.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY: NaNa ODESSA and Mr. BLACKBURN

Mr Blakburn was one of NaNa’s Suitors! Tale has it, this was supposed to be my Grandfather!

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY: NaNa ODESSA and SONS!

Left to Right: Augustus Banks Jr.(some say my son Jayson act just like him), Gloria(Earl’s girlfriend), Earl C Banks. Sitting: NaNa Odessa

TREASURE CHEST THURSDAY: NANA ODESSA’S VOTERS REGISTRATION CARD

The date on this card was September 1964. My brother was born in March. I will assume NaNa Odessa decided she wanted to make the city a little bit better for her grandson. Felicia

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY: NaNa ODESSA AND FRIEND

This is a picture of my grandmother Odessa Amos and her friend Rue or Ruthie(this is what name mom remembers). Not sure of what year this picture was taken,  but they do look like they are having a good time. Actually they look like they are up to something. See if NaNa Odessa would have stayed around a little longer I am so sure that my noisey self would have asked all those questions that I am asking now. I am so sure that she […]
