50 YEARS LATER & MOM FINALLY GOT TO MARCH!!

When the March happen 50 years ago my Mom was just 16 years old. From what she told me, she begged my Grandmother Odessa to take her, but her mom couldn’t afford it at the time. So when my Aunt Jackie(on the left-mom on the right) said that she was in town and had to work for the march, my jumped at the chance to go. Heck, this time she only lived like 30 minutes away from DC. Mom said […]

SENTIMENTAL SUNDAY: ANOTHER STORY PROVEN TRUE!!

As a little girl growing up, I always heard my Mom say that she had a sister that died during Child Birth. Of course when I started my Research, a lot of the stories I heard growing up were and are still not proven. For sure now I am able to prove one. I was on Ancestry.com and noticed that my Grandmother had a leaf and her information was bumping up against the information that someone had in their tree(actually it […]

CHRISTMAS BLOG CAROLING 2010 – MY FAMILY’S FAV

Thanks again to Footnote Maven for the invite to participate in Blog Caroling 2010. A couple of years ago one of my co-workers heard me talking about this song and me saying how hard it was to find the CD. I don’t know how she did it but she found the CD and gave it to me as a gift, which I was most grateful. This is one of my family’s favorite Christmas Song and now that I have the CD […]

SURNAME SATURDAY: MY NOLA UPDATE!

I previously did a post with all my Ancestors Surnames that I knew about up until this point. I have some more information that I want to share. Looks like my Robertson Line used two other Surnames: Robinson and Roberson. I knew about the Roberson Surname because on the 1870 Census the Family was listed as Roberson, but by 1880 and beyond it was Robertson. Now on the 1870 Census there was a Charity Roberson that was listed as a […]

SENTIMENTAL SUNDAY: ARLENE AMOS GRANDERSON

May 1938-February 04, 2010 Arlene(sitting on the left) is my moms first cousin(her dad was Joesph Amos). This picture was taken in January 1988, when my mom(on Arlene’s advice) packed everything up and decided to move from Chicago, IL to Maryland, and our family has been Blessed ever since. Arlene was an inspriration to us all and encourage us to be and do our best. She was my bother’s Godmother and she will be truly missed.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY: JAMES AND RUBY AMOS

James was the oldest son of my great grandmother Amanda. Born abt 1901 in Cotton Valley, LA. I never met my great uncle, but if you let my mom tell it, I did. I found this photo going through old photos and it turned out to be one of my favorites. It shows what a loving African American couple looks like. When Amanda fell ill, rumor has it that James took her from state to state trying to get her help. On […]

MADNESS MONDAY: CAROL JEAN COLLINS 11/1944-05/2006

Now I know madness mondays are for those ancestors that drive you mad. Although Aunt Carol did not drive me mad, but she did a number on my mom and the family. Although my NaNa Odessa only had one girl(which is my mom), her and NaNa Dora were real good friends so mom and Aunt Carol grew up together. Once my NaNa Odessa passed away NaNa Dora stepped in a mother figure for my mom and our families grew from […]

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY: EMMA ROBERTSON

EMMA ROBERTSON: 1876-1941 As you all know I recieved feedback from a post that I have left on ancestry and actually Mr. McMurray was one of the persons that I sent my letter to in Quest For Information. Here is his response: Felicia, WOW! I can’t believe how serendipitous your letter is for me. I was just about to wade back into this family history since I’m having to do a historical book on THOMASVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL here in Sarepta. […]

MY QUEST FOR ANSWERS!!

As you all know I have been trying to get information on my Louisiana Line. I have reached out to living family that might have some information on the Robertson/Robinson line, but no one had sufficent enough information. Was able to get bits and pieces here and there. Enough to build on my family tree. Since I know of the website AnyWho.com, where you can but a persons name, city and state and it would let you know of those […]
