SENTIMENTAL SUNDAY: FOLKLORE & OLD WISE TALES TRUE or FALSE

I was listening to Luckie Daniels of OurGeorgiaRoots have a discussion with her daughter and it so reminded me of my Mom and myself. At that moment it reminded me of something that happened when I was about 5 or 6 years old and I would love to share. I remember getting in the back seat of my Mom’s car or one of her friend’s car. The seat had to be let down and pulled up for me to get […]

50 YEARS LATER & MOM FINALLY GOT TO MARCH!!

When the March happen 50 years ago my Mom was just 16 years old. From what she told me, she begged my Grandmother Odessa to take her, but her mom couldn’t afford it at the time. So when my Aunt Jackie(on the left-mom on the right) said that she was in town and had to work for the march, my jumped at the chance to go. Heck, this time she only lived like 30 minutes away from DC. Mom said […]

SENTIMENTAL SUNDAY: ANOTHER STORY PROVEN TRUE!!

As a little girl growing up, I always heard my Mom say that she had a sister that died during Child Birth. Of course when I started my Research, a lot of the stories I heard growing up were and are still not proven. For sure now I am able to prove one. I was on Ancestry.com and noticed that my Grandmother had a leaf and her information was bumping up against the information that someone had in their tree(actually it […]

CHRISTMAS BLOG CAROLING 2010 – MY FAMILY’S FAV

Thanks again to Footnote Maven for the invite to participate in Blog Caroling 2010. A couple of years ago one of my co-workers heard me talking about this song and me saying how hard it was to find the CD. I don’t know how she did it but she found the CD and gave it to me as a gift, which I was most grateful. This is one of my family’s favorite Christmas Song and now that I have the CD […]

Mom and Me June 1980. Happy Mother’s Day!!

SURNAME SATURDAY: MY NOLA UPDATE!

I previously did a post with all my Ancestors Surnames that I knew about up until this point. I have some more information that I want to share. Looks like my Robertson Line used two other Surnames: Robinson and Roberson. I knew about the Roberson Surname because on the 1870 Census the Family was listed as Roberson, but by 1880 and beyond it was Robertson. Now on the 1870 Census there was a Charity Roberson that was listed as a […]

CARINVAL of AFRICAN AMERICAN GENEALOGY: GRANDMA HANDS! GRANDMOTHERS and THEIR INFLUENCE on the FAMILY!

I don’t remember my maternal Grandmother Odessa Amos(Big Momma to some but I like calling her NaNa). She passed away when I was 2 years old. My Mom and Dad worked the evening shift and NaNa Odessa babysat for my brother and I a lot, especially since her and my Mom lived across the hall from each other in the Robert Taylor Homes in Chicago, IL. I’m quite sure we spent many evenings in the kitchen talking, sharing recipes, and […]
