As everyone know from OurGeorgiaRoots on Saturday we took the Freedom Trail Tour with Johnnie Brown, and one of the places that he took us was The Laurel Grove Cemetery which once was a Plantation.
Now for someone that only goes to funeral unless I have to, I had no problem viewing Markers of Slave Ancestors. It was such a spiritual experience for me. I was always told growing up to never fear the dead its the living that you have to worry about and after this weekend, Boy can I say how True!!
The first Marker that Johnnie took us to was of Old Tom(view on OurFamilyAsaWhole).
Then Johnnie showed us the Slave Burials in the Cemetery/Plantation. There is just a row of Markers not much space between each Marker. Some have Names and Some do not. The one that does read: SACRED MEMORY of Thomas C Hall September 19, 1851-October 19, 1899. Julia A UNKNOWN Hall 1849-1904. I believe that maybe a descendant found their Ancestor and purchased a HeadStone. Lets Just Hope!!
One of the more funnier moments in the Cemetery was after leaving Old Tom’s Marker I asked Luckie to pose with a HeadStone of someone named Elzabeth. Boy what I do that for, I have never seen someone run so fast in 4inch Heals in my life and you can see from the picture while everyone else is Walking away, Luckie is no where in sight. I believe she was back on the bus before any of us!!
Just some more of our memoriable moments in Savannah!! Until Next Time!!
sourced: reading of the HeadStone from Find A Grave Chantham County Georgia

Sounds like you ladies had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing–I'm jealous! 🙂 My grandpa *might* have lived in Savannah (long story, to be blogged about soon!).
